Time for a check-in on the writing front! I said, on my website, that I wouldn't be doing a writing update until July but I've sorted out a bit of a schedule for myself in an attempt to manage my time better, and it's allowed me to slot in an update here in June. So let's have at it, then! Since My Last Update I have not been doing any writing, really. At least nothing worth talking about. As for the editing of Stolen, I have literally started it four times. On the first attempt, I reached Chapter 11 and realised I needed to rewrite the entirety of Chapter 11 and 12. I put off doing that for so long that I tried to restart the editing process. I made it to Chapter 2 before I got sidetracked with other things. So I tried again. I made it to Chapter 5, before being bored out of my brain. I finally decided that I just needed to ignore everything else and get the editing out of the way, so I decided to do some more research on editing. I'd done some, of course, but I needed to get my brain into the right mindset and during this process, I stumbled across a blog post by Rachel Aaron called "Editing for People Who Hate Editing". I read it and by this point, I was just thinking "Eh, it's a new method I've not tried before, what can it hurt to give it a go?" The first evening I made it through the first two chapters with over 1k worth of notes on things I needed to address. I wasn't bored or burnt out, and the only thing that stopped me progressing then and there was because I was falling asleep at my desk. So, I've finally found an editing method that seems to work for me, and I'm making progress on Stolen's Edits, at long last. Only 7 months after I finished writing it. At this point, I've been editing Stolen for longer than it took me to write the damn thing, so I'm very relieved to have stumbled over this way of editing. My Goals For June As I mentioned at the beginning, I've put some time into figuring out a schedule that allows me to better manage my time. This includes dedicated hours allotted to writing and editing.
What I'm hoping for in June is that I can make some real solid headway into those edits for Stolen. Even if I don't have time to actually start the edits, I should have enough time to get through the manuscript and figure out what needs changing and fixing. I don't anticipate getting too much in the way of writing done in June. Simply because I really want to dig into the Stolen edits. Having said that, since July is a Camp Nano month, I will be trying to get some writing done in the last week of June, just to get back into the flow properly for July's Camp Nano event. Additionally, since I intend to write more of Takeover for July's Camp Nano, I need to spend some time transferring my "notes" version of my outline, into Storyline-Creator. I'm just about out of content that I've fully plotted out so I'll need to spend some time making that clear and legible so I don't end up having to stop in the middle of July to flesh out my outline. And that's about all I have for this update! It's an update I didn't expect to make either, I thought I'd need at least another month before sorting out my schedule, so I'm taking this as a hopeful sign.
