You may have noticed, since I haven't posted an update on my Nano Word Count since day ten, that my Nano isn't going well. I had plans to beat my July record of 74k in 30 days, but honestly, I forgot how chaotic the November Nano always is for me. I've only completed the November version of Nanowrimo once, and only then by the skin of my teeth. Between family members having to go for unanticipated hospital check-ups, a series of migraines I've suffered myself, and an unfortunate case of writers fatigue, I'm wasn't even on track to hit 50k, let alone my stretch goal of 90k and a completed manuscript. Then I had a solid week where no writing. During that time I did some more editing on Changeling, so managed to get another 2 chapters sorted. And then I went to book my editor... I knew editors get booked up, so I wasn't expecting anything soon. When my editor told me she was booked until May, apart from one week in April, however, I realised how naive I'd been. Luckily, my editor is an absolute GEM and offered to work on my book through December, with any sporadic timeblocks she had spare, as long as I didn't mind her having the manuscript for about a month. I accepted, and also booked a slot with her for book two since, yeah. She's very busy! This means my priorities have shifted dramatically. I wasn't making much headway on Darkling this month anyway, but now I have about 2 weeks to finish up the final self edits on Changeling so that it's ready for my editor. So I've officially abandoned Nanowrimo.
I'm back to working on editing the final chapters of Changeling. December will be the professional edit for my book. I'll be back to writing Darkling in December and January. I don't usually like working in Dec/Jan. It's an incredibly busy time for me with family events, so I tend to make less progress, but I'm going to have to shuffle priorities. I've also managed to order my cover from Getcovers during their Black Friday sale, so I'm looking forward to hearing back from them! And that's it. This will be my final 'Nanowrimo' update. I hope everyone else taking part is more successful than me, but whether we wrote ten words, a hundred words, or 8,518 words, we still wrote new words. We made progress, and that's never a bad thing! <3
