How Do Your Writing Exercises Work? Essentially, I go to a “Single Word Prompt Generator” and have it throw a random word at me. Then I go to Unsplash.com and use that word to search their database of images, and scroll through for something that catches my attention. This may be something where I simply want to describe what’s in the image, or maybe it sparks a small story nugget in my brain. Regardless, I then take the picture and post it here, with credit, and proceed to write for 15 minutes. Whatever I produce, I share with you lovely people. Unedited. Typos are to be expected. Word Prompt: Sun Content & Trigger Warnings
Eyes opened slowly as I awoke from my slumber, the daylight slipping from the sky as evening began to take hold and I huffed out a weary sigh. The sun had never look more like a star to me, as it hit the horizon and flared. The forest below me stretched for miles, coating the terrain in a carpet of thick green, and as the cool night breeze blew in, my treetop perch bowed. I flexed, tensed, shifted with the swaying branches, but a moment later it grew quiet, and the whistling rustle settled amongst the leaves to rest for the night while my gaze flickered back to the setting sun. Carefully I edged my way along the branch, feet grasping the wood beneath me but I could easily sense it was sturdy enough to hold my weight as I continued to watch the sun progress in it’s quiet retreat behind the distant treetops. It would be a quiet hunt that night, and my wings flexed in preparation for flight. Beak snapping eagerly at the air, the taste of mouse and vole already on my tongue, before I launched into the air stained orange by the fading light. A little early, perhaps, with the sun still dancing blades of light across the sky, but I could smell the cool night air approaching, and my feathers were eager for the feel of fresh wind blowing through them. Gliding silently, swooping down, my eyes began the hunt, the smallest movements drawing my gaze as I ghosted my way through the sky. I brought death on silent wings, but it was simply a part of life, and one day I knew that death would claim me too. Not that night though. That night it was my talons in the backs of my prey, as the sun slept and darkness shrouded me in her beauty. #Writing #Original #Writing Exercise #Ari Writes #Arista Writes #CW Death
